This year, during English classes that we have spent in the computer room, we have used different kinds of social tools to talk about different themes and subjects with people from school or from around the world. We used at total of seven different tools.
43 Things allows you to post about things that you would like to do or buy, like buy a car or travel around the world. We shared ideas with other people who either had the same ideas as we did or commented on others.
43 Places is the same kind of site that 43 things, but in this one we share ideas about places that we would like to visit or give an opinion about places that we have already been to.
Bloglines is an aggregator through which we can bring together other people´s blogs and allows us to visualize the different posts on only one page. It warns us when a blog has been updated.
Community walk is a site where we can make maps of places to go, like a trip we would like to make, it is where we can indicate how to get to places where we have been and we can illustrate them inserting multimedia.
Del.icio.us gathers our favorites, our bookmarks online and we can share them with the world.
Flickr allows you to store photos of things we have done, we have seen, and share them with other people, we can comment on those photos and create communities.
Suprglu is where we glue our own collection of posts which are all over the web.
ECML, our first blog, was a project on a special blog platform where we posted about our themes and commented on other people’s blogs. WordPress is today our headquarters, our matrix, where we link to all our sites, bring together our favorite posts, where we can write and the blog we leave as reference when we comment on other people’s blogs.
There are some sites like Del.icio.us, suprglu, bloglines that we have used very little so I don’t have any opinion about them.
43 Things and 43 Places are my favorite as we have fun what other people say and comparing our own wishes to theirs. 43 Things is special because we can comment about all kinds of things, and it’s very funny to see the other people wishes, as crazy as they are.
Community Walk is nice too, but the only problem is that we are restricted to some countries only, like USA, Brazil or France. Other distant countries do not seem to have been mapped yet. It is really interesting but the only problem is that people can now see where you live exactly and this not really nice, we have to pay attention not to give away our privacy.
Flickr is very nice, you can put pictures of all kind of things, like you school, your town, and through them you can show to the world the things you like, you can make a community of cars if you like them, or a community about dogs.
ECML was very nice too. It was easy to use and gave us the possibility to talk with people from around the world. Differently from other blogs, we had the schools already inside and we knew where they were from.
WordPress, is like any other blog, where we post things and comment about them, the difference is that we can use it like a central, where we put all the sites that we know through a link, where we can gather posts from other site. I found it a little hard to use at the beginning but that’s normal.
I think that next year we can continue the same way, by using blogs to communicate with other people, because that way we can learn about all kind of things, about countries, the culture, and the traditions of other nations. I just think that we could use fewer tools.
